ZOA is ready to scale up humanitarian aid in Gaza

ZOA is preparing to expand its humanitarian assistance in Gaza as soon as conditions allow. Now that the Israeli cabinet and Hamas have reached an agreement, there is renewed hope that the violence will soon come to an end and that aid organisations will gain access to the area. "There is still a lot of uncertainty," says Edwin Visser, ZOA’s Chief Programme Officer. "But there is new hope, for the hostages and their families, and for the people of Gaza."

Urgent needs

"We are closely following the news," Visser continues. "We sincerely hope that the ceasefire will hold and that the violence will stop. People in Gaza currently have almost no access to humanitarian aid, and the situation is deteriorating by the day. ZOA stands ready to scale up its response as soon as possible."

Many people in Gaza have lost everything in the conflict. They urgently need food, water, and shelter. Despite the extremely challenging circumstances, ZOA has been able to provide assistance since the escalation of the violence; initially through small-scale food distributions and the provision of hot meals.

Cash assistance

In recent months, ZOA has also been able to support residents with electronic vouchers, allowing families to purchase food, water, and other basic necessities themselves. This response is implemented through ZOA’s Christian partner organisation in Gaza, in close cooperation with local churches and community members. As soon as the situation allows, ZOA will be able to scale up the provision of electronic vouchers, enabling many people in Gaza to quickly receive the help they need.
