An end to violence against women

Beating and threatening your wife. Disregarding her and exerting dominance as a man and husband. Not supporting your wife in her daily work. That was how Emergo from the Democratic Republic of Congo used to treat his wife, Mapindo Mauwa (25). Emergo and Mapindo are among many couples around the world dealing with domestic violence.

An end to violence against women

'There is no excuse'

We’d like to share Emergo’s and Mapindo’s story with you. After her husband took part in ZOA’s 'positive masculinity' project, Mapindo’s life turned around completely.

These projects make a huge difference in countries where women and girls are often seen as inferior to men and boys, and wives are considered the property of their husbands. ZOA aims to tackle this by challenging social norms on gender and by addressing men’s and women's specific experiences with safety and impunity.
