Programme period: 1999 – 2007
The programme in Albania, implemented under the lead of CORD-UK, started after the Kosovo crisis which resulted in large flows of refugees. This developed into a programme focusing on Albanian communities once the refugees returned home.
The programme encouraged the self-sufficiency of local rural communities of Gramsh district, Southern Albania. ZOA supported women’s groups, school committees, farmer cooperatives and small companies. Apart from direct improvement of living conditions, cooperation between people was encouraged, through which development of society in a post-communist era was stimulated.
Because of the growing stability in Albania, ZOA handed over to community organisations in Gramsh district.
The programme was supported by BuZa, Tearfund UK and ZOA’s own funding.
