Fuel Saving Stoves Dolo Ado

The Ethiopian team are focussed on execution of the first project, namely start up of livelihood activities for refugees and host communities, reduction of fire wood consumption and making sure refugee children can go to school. Opportunities for the next steps in Dolo Ado are being explored.

The ZOA programme wants to decrease tension over local resources between the host community and the refugee community. Members of both communities are targeted through livelihood and environment interventions. Besides this, the programme wants to create ‘connectors’ that will bring people into contact with each other and will enable them to mutually benefit form each other.

ZOA is distributing Fuel Saving Stoves. The first 1000 are handed over to households and 1000 are waiting to be delivered the coming days. In total, 6,500 stoves will be distributed. A laborious task because the receivers needs to be trained how to use this stove.

Families live together in a tent without shadow of trees, with temperatures of 42 degrees or more in a rather hopeless situation. The source of the disaster lies in Somalia, but we have no access to this country. NGO’s only work on the boundaries of the ‘famine zone’.
